The questions people ask most, answered.
Adding trips
How do I add a trip?
Press Add trip at the top of the app. Pick where you set off from, add the places you went in the order you visited them, and give it a date. Add to my map saves it, and the map draws it straight away.
I don’t remember the exact dates
Under the date, switch from Exact dates to Month or Year. “Summer 2001” is a perfectly good memory.
How do I change where a trip starts or ends?
Open the trip and look under Start and end. Tap the place to pick another. A trip can end back where it started, stay at its last stop (for a move abroad), or end somewhere else. Make default fills that place in for every new trip.
Can I import my trips?
Yes, from Trips → Import: a Polarsteps export, a spreadsheet (there’s a CSV template), flights from Flighty, myFlightradar24 or OpenFlights, or trains from Träwelling. The file is read on your device. Only cities, dates and nights are saved, never GPS tracks, photos or journal text.
How do I fix or delete a trip?
Find it on the Trips page and open it. Change what you need and save, or delete it at the bottom of the page.
Your map
Why is a country green?
A country turns green once one of your trips has a stop in it. The place a trip sets off from doesn’t count by itself.
Why do some routes follow roads and others are arcs?
Car, bus, train, bike and walking legs follow the roads, and boats follow real ferry lines. Flights are drawn as arcs. A brand-new route can show as an arc for a day before its road is filled in.
Can I show only some years, or only trains?
Yes, in the atlas’s filters. Choose a first and last year, or turn transport modes off. Play grows your map one year at a time.
Can I share my map?
Use Export on the atlas. It records a video of your travels, either the globe on its own or your whole life story, ready to post or send.
Statistics and recaps
How are distances measured?
As a straight line from place to place, the same way for every trip. A road trip can come out a little shorter than the car’s odometer.
What is my explorer type?
It comes from four things your trips show: whether you mostly go abroad or stay in the country, whether your trips last more or less than a week, whether you go alone or with company, and whether you tag them outdoors or city. Adding who came along and what you did sharpens it. See all sixteen types.
What are recaps?
Your trips told as stories: every year, every decade and your whole life so far. You can watch them, post them as a video, or print every trip on one poster (PNG or PDF).
Wishlist
What is the wishlist for?
Countries you want to go to, with when, how much you want it, a budget and places to see. Once you’ve been to a country, it moves to Done by itself.
Can I plan a trip there?
Yes: Plan a trip under a country. When you’ve made the trip, Make it a trip puts it on your map with its places already filled in.
Account and privacy
Who can see my trips?
Only you. Nothing is public unless you post an export yourself.
Kilometres or miles? Dark mode?
Both are on your Account page.
How do I delete my account?
On your Account page, under Delete your account. Your trips, homes, photos and shared links go with it, for good.
Why can’t I change the demo’s settings?
Everyone trying Trafays shares the demo account, so it stays as it is. Make your own account to keep your trips to yourself.
